English and Dramatic Arts
13-17 year old boys and girls.
Delivered by Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) graduates, in partnership with RADA, this two week course is designed to give young people an exciting and engaging insight into the skills used by actors in rehearsal and performance.
Held in the state-of-the-art Ryan Theatre at Harrow School, where Benedict Cumberbatch learnt to act, students will learn skills that are at the heart of communication, conversation, expression and storytelling.
Students are taught by qualified EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teachers. The average class size is 12 so students will receive plenty of teacher attention and have a high quality class experience. Students will improve language skills through a range of interesting and exciting activities. Average 15.5 hours tuition +2.5 hours break = 18 hours of lessons per week.
Students get to grips with the building blocks of an actor's work, and a taster of training at a drama school like RADA. The course begins with examination of the essential areas of voice, physicality and acting, mixing practical technique with creative work, and goes on to apply these techniques to both scripted and improvised performance. The sessions draw from leading practitioners across disciplines, such as Stanislavski, Laban and Keith Johnston. The students then collaborate with the tutor, and each other, to create a presentation of work drawn from the areas studied. This presentation will allow an invited audience insight into the group's two weeks of work, and allow students the vital experience of exercising their newly developed muscles in a live performance environment. The course is designed to be accessible yet challenging, and should also be a great deal of fun.
Topics covered include:
- Scene Study
- Stage Combat
